Safety and Security

Staying safe when searching for property

At HomeClicked, your safety is our priority. Whether you are buying, renting, or viewing a property, we want to help you stay safe throughout the process.

Viewing properties safely

  • Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return
  • Where possible, take someone with you to property viewings
  • Arrange viewings during daylight hours when you can
  • Meet the agent or landlord at the property rather than travelling with them
  • Keep your mobile phone charged and with you at all times
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, leave immediately

Spotting and reporting suspicious listings

Be cautious of listings that:

  • Seem too good to be true, such as unusually low prices for the area
  • Ask you to send money or a deposit before you have viewed the property
  • Pressure you to make a quick decision without allowing time to think
  • Use images that appear to be stock photos or taken from other listings
  • Have vague or incomplete property descriptions

If you come across a listing that you believe is fraudulent or suspicious, please report it to us immediately at [email protected].

Protecting your money

  • Never send money to a landlord or agent before viewing a property in person
  • Be wary of requests to pay by bank transfer to a personal account
  • Check that the agent or landlord is who they claim to be — look for membership of professional bodies such as ARLA Propertymark or The Property Ombudsman
  • Ensure any deposit is protected in a government-approved tenancy deposit scheme

Account security

To keep your HomeClicked account secure:

  • Use a strong, unique password that you do not use on other websites
  • Never share your login details with anyone
  • Log out of your account when using a shared or public computer
  • Contact us immediately if you notice any suspicious activity on your account

How we protect you

HomeClicked takes a number of steps to protect our users, including reviewing listings for accuracy, using secure encrypted connections across our website, and providing tools for users to report concerns. We work with law enforcement and industry partners to help combat fraud in the property sector.
